Why
do I need an eye exam every year or two?
People often ask why they need an eye exam when they can see just fine.
The reason you want to have an exam every one to two years is two
fold.
First, we update your prescription every time you have a
comprehensive
eye exam. Second, and more importantly, we do a thorough health
check of
the eyes every time we see you.
Many ocular diseases present no symptoms until it's too late, like
glaucoma.
If you have a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration,
you
need an eye health evaluation at least once a year - more frequently if
there
are symptoms of the disease.
Your eye physician is the appropriate source for treatment of eye
allergies,
dry eyes, eye injuries. Also, if you are on certain high risk
medications
like steroids, your eye physician can monitor you for any adverse
complications.
The eyes are the window to one's health. If you don't see your
primary
care physician on a regular basis and you have undiagnosed or untreated
hypertension or diabetes that too can affect the health of your eyes,
and
ultimately your ability to see clearly.
Your eyes are precious. Protect them with a regular comprehensive
eye
health examination.
